Networking is the key to career success--I'm sure you've heard that before. But, what exactly is it? And, how do you go about it?
According to wikipedia, "business networking functions best when individuals offer to help others to find connections, rather than "cold-calling" on prospects themselves. Business networking can take place outside of traditional business environments. For example, public places such as airports, restaurants, and movie line-ups provide opportunities to make new business contacts if an individual has good social skills."
Now on-line networking programs allow you to network right from your keyboard! Here are a couple sites where you can get started:
LinkedIn:
This social networking site is primarily used as a holding ground for business contacts and networks. If there's someone you've wanted to meet, you can have one of your contacts introduce you to that person through their network. As of July 2007, it had more than 12 million registered users, spanning 150 industries and more than 400 economic regions (as classified by the service) (Wikipedia).

Doostang:
Two students originally created this social networking site as a means to streamline the job hunting process. With so many jobs and even more job site engines, now you can review positions posted by reliable people within the network. Note: there are quite a few internships posted! Now, the site hosts forums and groups so that you can stay connected with smaller network circles and get answers to your burning questions.

Which one do you join? That's really up to you. I would suggest joining all of them--you will increase your network even more. Just remember-especially if you're using facebook-to check your posts and pictures daily. Anyone can view your profile, so make sure that what you're posting is something you wouldn't mind your boss viewing.
